The REDI Innovation Hub hosted Columbia's first public Game Jam January 27-29. A Game Jam is a gathering of people for the purpose of planning, designing, and creating one or more games within a short span of time, usually over a weekend.
The #COMOJAM was organized by two of REDI's Hub clients, Spaceshark Studios & Brave Toad Studios. Hawthorn Bank and Veteran's United Home Loans sponsored food & prizes. More than 70 people registered for the Jam, all with diverse talents in programming, music composition, art design, and game dynamics. Six teams completed projects by the deadline.
The theme for the Jam was The Human Body, leading to some educational games that explore anatomy or the immune system. The winner of the Jam was a new game called "Eye Bowl," created by a team comprised of 2 developers from VU and a graphic design student still in high school. It is a simple game with art and dynamics that makes it hard to quit playing. This game and three others are available for download at COMOJAM Itch.io
REDI is proud to showcase the diverse talent and success of game creators in Columbia. REDI will continue to support entrepreneurs from the gaming industry as clients at the Innovation Hub and through future gaming events.
